World Cup '83 - My favorite moment

I am ashamed to admit that I expected India to lose and switched off the Telly and slept.
That makes my memory of the World Cup '83 some what suspect.
However, I did watch India bat. and hence can truthfully say that Srikkanth's cover drive of Andy Roberts - he went on his knees to a good length ball, as my most cherished moment.

There is one other moment I cherish, that is Dujon playing on to Mohinder. Even today, when ever I watch the highlights, I get the feeling, until then the West Indies were cock-sure of winning the finals.

BTW, any of you remember the ODI series that followed ?
If I am not mistaken they walloped us 5-0 (or was it 6-0).
To put it mildly, the WI's annihilated us. Sick smile emoticon

We shd likewise celebrate our victory over Hongkong in Asia cup after 25 yrs. Dhoni and Raina can tell us, then in their wrong side of 40s , how they belted the world class attack of Hongkong on a feather bed.

R,
The poor guys get some publicity.
Lert us not grudge them that. :)

Yes I think they were out for revenge. But I think we stood up pretty well in the tests. Yes we lost 0-3 but that itself is quite something against that team in that mood. And we did take lead in the other three tests.

Yes Dujon's wicket is my favorite moment too. They had lost 4-5 wickets but they could have still won. I think they had done something similar in '79. Dujon's wicket really signalled that WI were not going to win. Kapil's catch would have been my favoite moment, but we didn't have power for some time in between and so didn't see it live.

Amol,

Kapil's catch was undoubtedly the defining moment.

Glad to see you agreeing with me on Dujon.

Not only did they annihilate us in that series, for every boundary scored and ball bowled, they glared and cussed like Julius ceasor.

The Indians were behind their mommy's skirts in that series :)

And if only Vivian was not over-confident and pig headed, it was an easy win... served him right.
