Why do some cricketers revel in their home ground, while others struggle?

Normally, you expect an accomplished cricketer to revel in his home ground/country.
However, there are honorable exceptions.
Why do some cricketers revel in their home ground, while others take long to leave an imprint?

Most of the batsmen on that list are lower-order or played before centuries became common in ODI cricket. There have only been 17 centuries scored from number 6 in 4700 innings.

Of the others, there is, eg, Symonds, who took a couple of years before starting to play well at international level, home or away.

David,
17 centuries in 4700 innings?
Does that mean that teams that loose early wickets never achieve significant scores?

Well there are always exceptions of course. But typically to score a century you need about 100 balls, which means you need to be out in the middle for about 200 balls, or about 33 overs.

Usually when a team loses 4 wickets in the first 15 overs, it's not an easy batting track.

Strange, looking at those numbers.

I wonder about our famous trio as well. While statistically Sachin is not in this list but he still doesn't have one defining knock in Mumbai - say like he has in Chennai. I guess similar is true for Ganguly at Kolkata (not considering last year's 100 against Pak) and Dravid in Bangalore. Something at a crucial time against some big team!

David,

Basically, the whole team is in a batting stupor.:0

Amol,

Our trio if I am not mistaken have good records in Chennai.
Among them Dravid should be having a better record on his home ground than the other two.

May be the expectations overwhem them.
