Sree loses cool over AC, should BCCI take notice?

The BCCI has sent a notice asking Sreesanth to explain the altercation he had with a city hotel.

The BCCI is clearly exceeding its brief.

For, why should it be bothered with what Sreesanth does in his personal time?

Because he is a national representative? That is, he represents your country in cricket, and thus should behave in a certain manor that is becoming of a national figure.

I thought you were on a holiday?

Coming to Sreesanth, it was a minor incident and it was not as if national honour was at stake.

BTW, the BCCI has ignored worse cases for example one of their former Captains was caught red-handed with the carcass of a deer. (hunting a protected species).

Not a murmur about it from the BCCI.

Similarly, just last month, Praveen Kumar who played in the Tri-series was involved in a road-rage altercation. The BCCI shrugged it off as it didn't concern them.

So why the double standards?

Holiday begins next Friday.

I think you've missed my point. The topic here is why Sreesanth should be scrutinized. If your post was about the former captain, and whether the BCCI should do anything, I would have said yes they should have, and given the same reason. The same goes for Praveen Kumar.

The double standards are not excusable, and every player should be held to the same rules as the next one - whether they are high up in the pecking order or low down.

On the other hand, double standards should not be used as an excuse to not scrutinize players. If it is, you are simply propagating and endorsing the very double standards that weaken the BCCI on this front.

What people should be critical of is the double standards and not that Sreesanth is being investigated.

No, national honour wasn't 'at stake', but what sort of characters do you want representing national honour when it IS at stake? The sorts of people who get into these minor incidents (who are the same sort of people that get into major incidents), or people who know how to more effectively judge a situation and avoid the negative spotlight?

An example from Australia - Andrew Symonds (India's favourite cricketer haha) turned up to training drunk. He was sacked for a match by our officials. Shane Warne was involved in that doping thing, he was banned for a year. Ricky Ponting, a long time ago, was in a bar brawl and was dropped from the team for years after that. In Australia, there is no tolerance for national sporting figures and national representatives to step out of line even the slightest. There is due punishment. The BCCI should take this approach to bring all their players into line.

BCCI shd not drop Sree until he retires. He provides the entertainment element which is one of the awoved purpose of IPL of which sree is a product.

Its time for another session of slap therapy.:)

BCCI ignored Praveen Kumar's spat but is taking on Sree (bias?). What is he supposed to have done besides argue heatedly? I have argued against being billed for a non-working AC in a tourist car. Will I come under the BCCI radar if I was a cricketer?

Having said that - Sree better watch it - the nation has little patience with him.

Thomas,

I offer RS comments as my answer.

KP,R,Wasim,RS,

I agree. Sree needs to tone down. He is testing everyone's patience.

Unless of course if he is playing Australia then it would be paying back in the same coin, right?

LMAO

Actually Sree is alright.

He may lose his cool now and again as well as try too hard but deep down you know he is a nice guy.

I'm trying to point out that there's a proper way to act in situations, and there is an improper way to act. Punish people for acting improperly, commend them for acting properly. If he has argued heatedly, look at it - is it becoming of a national figure? If it is not, then he should face appropriate consequences. If he acted in a justified way, then leave it be.

Asking him to explain himself, and looking into the matter, is simply a way to find out if he acted properly. You can't possibly be against *trying to find out* if he did act inappropriately.

And as for RS specifically, if you conducted yourself in a respectable and orderly manner in the way you argued over your car, then the BCCI should have (if it were an ideal organisation) no problem with you. If you ranted, yelled, swore and whatnot then the BCCI should have a problem with you. There are ways to act and ways to not act.

i agree with thomas here..

why sree got scrutinize when praveen walked off freely coz sree has had history behind him...

its not the case of bias...but checking on guy who has been repeatedly warned for his behavior on and off field and most recently so after the slap gate...

the guy needs to get his priority right and someone for once should get his screws tight otherwise we are gonna loose a good talent very soon and nobody will be his side then...and will become laughing stock (if not already) within team and fans...

for the record - I did not rant and rave (but was firm in my stand) and got the result I wanted (billed as a non-ac car) :-)

If news items like this are true, Sreesanth does not deserve any defense.

But can BCCI tell Sree, don't try to get a freebie (pot calling the kettle black?)

Going by the said SMS, I should have asked for a car free for a year with the fuel and driver as well. Why did I not think of that :-) ?

Hanumanji,

Welcome back. I see you are up to your tricks. :)

Thank-you, you prove the point. There are appropriate ways to act to get proper results. Had you acted like a loon, you probably wouldn't have got your results.

I don't think they should interfere with anything that happens when he is not on duty. For example, when a tour or tournament is on and he has a scrap, he is accountable. But when he is not playing, they shouldn't be sticking their noses. Ridiculous.
