VMM, a Royal Challengers fan wonders, “What surprises me even more is that they are getting less flak for their performance than the BRC”.
True, Royal Challengers seem to be taking it in the chin from all quarters while the Deccan Chargers are getting away with pathetic performances.
To repeat VMM’s question, why are the Deccan Chargers getting away with mediocre performances?
The answer is simple.
If we were to recollect, at the very outset, media and the blogger's had gone to town labelling the Bangalore Royal Challengers as ‘Test XI’. Dravid was dismissive of their opinion. That dismissive retort must have hurt. Unfortunately, as if to prove the commentator right, Dravid and Royal Challengers have made a hash of their chances. The blogger's and the media considered it a vindication and in glee have been tearing the Royal Challengers performance to pieces.
In contrast, the Deccan Chargers were hailed by the same mainstream media and assorted blogger's for getting it right during the bidding. Rightly or wrongly, Laxman got a surge of admiration for declining the ‘icon’ status (the rumour is, he traded it for the captaincy), thus freeing up money to bid for players.
However, the Deccan Chargers wrong footed the commentators with their dismal performances. Obviously, they are not going to criticize Deccan Chargers, as it will highlight their misjudgment in sharp relief.
The answer is simple; the Deccan Chargers have proved the media wrong, hence, they are keeping mum, whereas the Royal Challengers have proved them right and hence, criticised.

The difrence between the two teams--The Royals did not get the right combination at the auction and are playing badly as expected while the Chargers got the combination rightly and are playing equally badly. The team owners are two difrent persons who look at cricket in difrent ways. The chargers owners are more understanding of the format than the Royals who want to see only success. But ,it will do cricket a world of good if both teams dont make it .
The captains of both teams who have played some stupendous cricket are crowds favourites and are real gentlemen. In their places Ganguly would have drawn criticisms from all over and Dhoni would have been completely exonerated
R,
Yep. Mallya admits that the mistake he made was in letting Dravid and Charu decide on whom to bid.
the newspaper (Deccan Chronicle) which takes the lead in criticizing every time India loses a match owns the DC team. Hence, you dont see any battering of the team for its pathetic performance.
They filled up the team with batsmen, forgot to buy some good bowlers. And now even the batsmen are letting them down.
Philip,
I agree that DC is letting their team escape. However, what is stopping the others? :)
Well said Ott. I think ur right.
I's be the first to admit that the Chargers had picked the strongest team and I rated them highly on my "bidometer", whereas i gave low rating to RCB.
While I along with the rest of the blogging world / media knew that RCB would do badly anfd thus we are riting abt it, I think we all remain bewildered by why the Chargers havent been able to do well.
Aart from Laxman's captaincy in the first few matches no one really has been able to pinpoint why the Chargers keep losing. I think thats another reason why no one is riting abt them.
Mallya was seen waving the placard in the auction and smiling between his beard and moush. .So he must be aware of the men in his team.Dont u remember seeing him.?More on this team selection will come out soon.I wont be surprised if Dravid quits if his team loses the match against kings today.HE will carry Prasad with him.
Q,
If you observe, the teams drawing the least criticism are RC and 3D. It is mainly due to the fact that we are unable to put a face on the owners.
Whereas Mallya's association with RC is well known so they draw flak.
bang on LOL... good observ
Thanks for the plug, Ottayan. :) So that's the reason huh? It's down to ego-satisfaction on all levels.
VMM,
Plain ego.:)
