Srikkanth and his selection committee colleagues are all set to select the Indian ODI team for the next month’s tri-series in Sri Lanka and the team for the Champions Trophy in South Africa.
Rahul Dravid stands no chance of being selected if the criterion for selection is based on the player’s performance in the last ODI series in the West Indies.
However, going by the intense fitness evaluation the Indian team is undergoing under their coach Gary Kirsten and the fitness fiasco surrounding Sehwag, Rahul Dravid stands a strong chance if one of the players is found unfit.

Because of poor performance in his last series he deserve to wait for a chance when a player is declared unfit.
One thing that can work in Dravid's favour for the Champions trophy in SA can be South African wickets are sometimes tricky to handle as unlike the hard wickets on gets in Australia the South African wickets does have more of a tennis ball bounce which requires batsmen to play late and Dravid has the technique to do that.
Vikas,
You are right, Dravid has not played a single ODI in the last 2 years. So it is wonder that he is back in contention.
GB,
That could be the only reason.
Experience, my friends, experience! It does count for a lot, you know! :)
BTW, could you possibly add me to your blog list? I will do the same for you. A million thanks in advance!

Cricket Tragic,
A warm welcome. Yes experience counts but most of the other players are experienced too.
I don't think we are in such bad situation that Dravid has to play, he can be with the squad as a mentor for the younger batsmen and can help in correcting their technical flaws.
Ottayan,
You possibly misinterprete my comment I wanted to say that it was Dravid'd bad performance in the last matches he had played which let him to wait for kindness of selectors to be in team.
Baiju,
Regretfully he has been selected.:)
Vikas,
I agree with you on this. I believe his exclusion was also due to his fight with the then Chairman of selectors, Vengsarkar.
Vikas,
I don't think so. He is only trying to correct the wrongs of the past.:)
@Vikas
There is a general bias against South Indians by North Indians. I have always noted that there seems to be an outrage whenever a South Indian is included but none so much when a Northie is included! :(
Cricket Tragic,
This is because this time selector is from Bangalore and when a North Indians were included there were no North Indian Selectors.I don't blame K.Shreekanth but facts and figures are pointing this.:)
