4 th ODI, Bangalore – India England 2008

Surprise! After dire warnings of a wash out, it was a surprise to see the match start almost on schedule. The second surprise albeit a more muted one was Englands decision to field despite winning the toss. A move no doubt brought about by happenings in the previous ODI.

It is apparent that England is trying everything in the book even the D/L method to win this match. Unfortunately, due to repeated interruptions, all their calculation went awry and they still lost the match by 16 runs, as they were unable to reach the revised target of 198 set by D/L method.

Expectedly, Tendulkar opened with Sehwag resulting in Rohit Sharma sitting out. Though Sehwag won the man of the match, it was Zaheer and Munaf who fashioned the victory. Even in a truncated game where the English batsmen went hell for the leather, they bowled restrictively and effectively.

India now leads 4-0 in this series and has taken a unbeatable lead. The team management should use the remaining 3 matches to try out the much needed and touted rotation policy.

6.00 A.M.

England will require a miracle to win the series from hereon. India is leading the seven-match series 3-0 and all India needs to do is win one more match and then the series is theirs.

Though they are improving by the game, England need one great innings per match to win the series. Both their bowlers and their batsmen have only put in adequate performances.

News reports say that for the last two days, it is raining in Bangalore and there is a real possibility of a washout failing which there could be a truncated game. England has played their cards shrewdly. By constantly whining on the last match, England has managed to get Roshan Mahanama’s assurance that in case of a truncated match a shorter lunchtime and other such measures will be taken to compensate the loss of time.

India has a peculiar problem on its hands. Tendulkar inclusion in the squad means there is going to be a disruption in the batting order. As Tendulkar’s preference for opening in the ODI’s is well known, it will mean Dhoni will have to separate the opening pair of Sehwag and Gambhir.

How it will affect the teams performance one will have to wait and see.

Like they say Wailing attracts the the mother's attention and she then proceeds to feed...There is a new litter near where I park my car...I see the mother do the same with her pups. Only the most vocal and demanding is given the nipple.

India should win one match. If they do not I'd be surprised.

Be back checking on the thread.

SB,

Good to see you here. Glad to see you have not given up on surfing.

Agree with you on the rest. Looks like there will be no match to discuss. :)

Sedate start by Tendulkar and India. Sehwag, as usual.

Clouds looming large now.

Ottayan, sometimes I feel, especially these days, that we do more to tailor Tendulkar in rather than Tendulkar fitting into the team.

I love Tendulkar and all that, nothing against him or my comments do not mean anything against him, but just that the momentum of the game and team shifts from onward rolling to around him.

I could be wrong of course. Just a feeling..

Oh come on! Rain!

Duckworth and LEwis played better than England.A very compelling pair, this. Can anyone tell me why Engalnd were asked to chase a bigger total for the same number of overs.

Viswanathan said...

R,

Probably because the initial 17 overs were played as a normal match.

Is D/L factoring in power plays now? India ended up with 17 power play overs while England had 8 - though they did not use even that wisely. I liked how India switched to the T-20 mode with ease.

RS,

I do not think the PP is factored in. Yes India had the advantage of the power plays and England messed up theirs.

I believe IPL has enhanced our cricketers ODI skills.

Its quite surprising that KP and team still haven't formed a winning combination, after all the 2011 WC will be played in the subcontinent. Wouldn't they want to get used to the conditions now so that they can do better then?

Priya,

A warm welcome and then a thanks for sharing your thoughts on this blog.

You are right, they are yet to firm up their combination.

One thing I noticed about the activities of the English team is that they live in an delusional world.
