Bat manufacturer Gray-Nicolls have confirmed the development of a prototype bat that has a small-flattened hitting area on the reverse side. This will enable batsmen to hit the ball with both sides of the blade.
Though ostensibly made for the Twenty20 format, it is surely another nail in the bowler’s coffin. Former cricketers instead of berating ICC will better serve cricket if they stop these unwarranted developments.

I think the batsmen are not allowed to use the backside deliberately to play shots becoz u see them turning the bat for reverse sweeps instead of banging it straight. This new look could be to make it even on both sides and give it a balanced look.
Soulberry,
Exactly - it is becoming like baseball.
R,
It is intended for switch hitting.
