Crying Wolf over Test Cricket

Crying Wolf I do not know about others but I am certainly getting tired of being harangued over the importance of Test cricket.

Here is the latest bleating about saving cricket and this time it is from the MCC Committee.

Twenty20 cricket must be scrutinized to prevent it from damaging the impact of the traditional Test format, a Marylebone Cricket Club committee recommended Sunday.

As far as I can see, countries are still playing Test cricket and cricketers and other stakeholders are constantly talking about the importance of playing it.

Then why cry wolf?

ott, it's like global warming. the more you talk, the less you do about it. and the less it hurts. if it hurts that is.

Well said Ott.

have you noticed...some older guys like you and me in parts other than England have been the most eager to get a new variety of the game up in the air?

However, if you saw England vs Middle sex, you'd run along with MCC without further ado.

In fact the entire opening overtures of the Stantrillions was an anticlimactic start to stewing expectations. Hopefully the final soup is worth the boil.

And to add to your disgust, another link

R,

Challenger Trophy, was a day night game. I believe that Indians never had the culture of watching Test matches in stadiums.

Poshin,

I am heading over to your blog.

Soulberry,

I believe Test cricket is an anachronism in this age and it is a surprise it survived so long. The game is evolving and undoubtedly all of us the fuddy-daddy's should do the best to preserve it.:)

BTW, the article at the end of the link was most un-English an article one can ever find. No justifications.

Tri,

I believe they are busy monitoring Stanford's innovations.

Test cricket started with only 1000 watching. Then came a time when u could not get even high priced season tickets. THe stadiums were jam packed.ONce u check in u cannot come out till the match was over, a la Hotel California. Now back to olden days.

R,

Personally I will be concerned when everyone stops playing cricket.
