The term of the current selection committee is coming to a close. In fact it will perform its last act by selecting the ODI team for Sri Lanka.
Surprisingly for an committee known for its regionalism and quota system, they have done a good job. They have unearthed new talent and given back confidence to quiet a few seniors.
However, one area where they have failed is in providing an exit plan to the seniors. The commonly held perception is despite good intentions the seniors refuse to let go and this selection panel with Vengsarkar at its head appear too eager to maintain the status quo.
One other area where they lacked clarity or did they deliberately confuse is the Rahul Dravid episode. From the high of winning the English series, Dravid relinquished his Captaincy and also suffer poor form and it appears the handiwork of the selection committee's Chairman.
Do you think the selection committee did a good job?

The seniors did not take the many hints. They are perhaps waiting for the other seniors to do the quitting first.
R,
Yep. It has become tiresome.
i think sponsors and corporates who have big stakes on them are preventing their exit...
in all practicality next contracts wont be renewed (like pepsi didn't of sachin) that will be the time...
Pan,
That is a possibility.
Unfortunately in the case of Sachin we may never see his back.
I still don't know whether the current selection is good..ojha over mishra, kohli? Geez.
I like their intention of giving Ishant a rest.
What is the scoop on Sreesanth? Has he permanently damaged his spot with the crying incident?
RS,
Sreesanth is unfit. NCA have not given him a fitness certificate.
This is the official line.
After all that said and done, I still feel Kaif should be in the team, one step further he should be the captain not Dhoni. I feel Dhoni is just driving his luck and charm. Lets see how long he can go...
The only light at the end of the tunnel is giving Ishant a rest. Other than that, the team and the selection is blah! I will be snoring through the ODI series.
As for the seniors, we need a policy and a clear-cut one, so that everybody is on the same page. But given BCCI and their ways, that will never, I repeat, never happen. They will perennially play the hide-and-seek game.
Slog,
I am a great fan of Kaif. Sadly, his game has fallen apart. With the fab four entrenched and Rohit, Raina in the public eye, he stands little chance.
Lets hope he rediscovers his batting form.
VMM,
As you rightly point out there is nothing new in the selection.
I think this committee has played it safe with the ODI team.
