Why does Ganguly still want to play ODI’s?

Recently, on the sidelines of the Castrol Awards night, Ganguly has denied rumors of retiring from ODI’s. Typically, the media has endlessly replayed it.
It is perplexing why Ganguly, an intelligent person, keeps hinting at recall to the ODI side, when the whole world knows that he is unwanted.
The reasons are not far to seek. Ganguly knows that by keeping this topic simmering in public he can use the public outcry at an opportunate moment.
For example, India has lost the last two ODI finals in succession. All it requires is for one more loss, namely against Sri Lanka in the coming ODI’s for the public outcry against the ‘youth only’ policy of the selectors.
That is enough for the political animals in the BCCI to bring pressure on the selectors to recall him.
However, this does not explain why Ganguly still wants to continue playing in the ODI’s.

Ganguly will do well to stop with playing tests. He will benefit by doing so coz he can be fresh for the matches.

It is the money which is tempting him.

Of course it is the money which tempt all these stars in the subcontinent to over extend their career, the fans in subcontinent worship these stars like idols and fail to accept the reality that at a certain point change is inevitable and these superstars take full advantage of their fan following.

The job of selectors will become much easier if the fans in subcontinent mature like the fans in Australia.

i think it is simply ego.

Wasim,

I agree it is the money. They live in a cocoon and with sycophants around they have lost touch with reality.

I agree APD. Their ego is well-stoked by their well-wishers.

Having been dropped - is it meaningful for Ganguly or Dravid to state that they will retire from ODI now?

My guess is they will wait for a miraculous call-back or retire from all forms of cricket at the same time. Also if they quit ODI, it will be much harder for them to increase/maintain their value in IPL.

RS,

My view is they are angling for a 'benefit match'.

Ganguly's always been a better ODi batsman than a test one so why he's out of the ODI side still baffles me...

Ganguly in isolation is a much better ODI batsmen than a Test Batsmen.

Unfortunately, he has lost his capacity to blaze away.

he still believes. also the full package talk of batsman n bowler is like an awakening - had he bowled more in his odi career he could've been nigh indipensable. but that was his call at captain
