Interesting speculation on the composition of the Indian team.
Former cricketers think the ideal combination is 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers.
On flat Sri Lankan pitches, it is better to pack the team with batsmen.
However, in India's case the 7/4 combination will work only if Sachin and Ganguly take up the load.
What are your thoughts?

i have said elsewhere too...that i have my reservations in going with 4 bowlers...
ishant looks tired after the workload he is taking since oz debt...we still don't know how match fit are zaheer and harbhajan...coz its not easy to come and be at your peak straightaway that too on flat subcontinent wickets...
so i will bit the bullet and field 5 bowlers...with gg sitting out...dk opening and we going in with 3 pacers and 2 spinners...
there is also small matter of being no.2 test team...as you said...
though i know this wont happen...
I'm for 5 bowlers with Gambhir sitting out and Karthik opening. Though Ganguly can bowl, he can't be a full blown fifth bowler. Munaf can play as 5th bowler.
Pan,
I agree with you regarding the work load factor. Ishant may break down and considering Zaheer's past record, he may also break down midway of a Test match.
However, I have my doubts, over our bowlers effectiveness.
VMM,
Munaf is an interesting suggestion. In the end, it may be RP who will make the cut.
Rest Ishant before he's incapable of bowling even 4 over t20 spells -which he is already.
DK on top is a soft option. If India plays 5 bowlers, which is a luxury in Lanka, then it should be at the cost of a middle order bat, not an opener.
NC,
Middle order bat- are you suggesting RD or ST or VVS or SG to be rested?
ott, take yr pick.
no suggestions, just lesser of the two evils - if they are to field 5 bowlers, then do so, not at the cost of an opener or wktkpr opener, but at the cost of a middle order bat.
Didn't Eng play 5 bowlers?
Gotta learn from the Yuvraj-opener toss up in Oz. Or stagnate as a team for personality players. Like England.
NC,
As we speak, they have gone with the majority opinion. 7/4 it is.
