At the same time, IPL has announced its plans to host the Champions League in India.
However, to be successful, both have to have the support of Cricket Australia and South Africa Cricket.
IPL has an edge as they already have most South African and Australian cricketers signed on for 3 years. This does not mean that the BCCI can take their support for granted.
It is common knowledge that they, particularly Cricket Australia, are chaffing under the ignominy of being sidelined by the BCCI.
Now with ECB projecting itself as the one to take on the might of BCCI, the BCCI should be wary, as both Cricket Australia and South Africa Cricket are natural allies of the ECB.
So the question is will they continue to support India?

A "Champions" tournament every month without half the Champions - what a treat :-( CA will send teams to both tournaments so that they don't need to take a firm stand? What is the purpose of the ICC if they cannot prevent such a mess?
money talks. not to worry, the BCCI will win the race. How can anyone ignore a market as big as India and pray, how many companies from Aus or SA or England can match the sponsorship powers that Indian companies posses?
THey may send teams to both as rs said since they have enoug players to fill up the places. I guess it is a shadow fight for getting the upper hand.
RS,
You have certainly opened up an escape route for CA. :)
Philip,
Glad to see you back in action.
There is one other aspect to these rival leagues, people like Stanford who have missed out on IPL will jump into the fray.
I believe the Saudi royal family has agreed to bank roll ECB's Champions League.
R,
Yes, this is a shadow fight. However, I am surprised by ECB proving to be the rallying point.
It is pretty amusing. You might see a champions league every month each sponsored by a differrent country.
Anybody remembers an organisation called the ICC? Shouldnt it be taking a firm stand as to which is the offical Champions League?
I mean this is ridiculous. Just because the BCCI and the ECB cannot agree over a few points, two separate Champions leagues are going to be held. Can you imagine this happenning in any other sport? English teams were banned from taking part in the Football European Cups for some time due to a stadium disaster. But the FA didnt organise a separate Champions league.
Until and Unless the ICC takes a firm stand, Cricket is slipping backwards.
All I know is a lot of people including the BCCI are going to burn their fingers when they find themselves disillusioned on the so called money they are going to earn.
On a general note, this is going way too far on being totally stupid on both the sides.
Apurv,
It is nothing but greed and a unhealthy dose of ego.
They will surely kill cricket.
Scorpi,
Stupidity in a mammoth scale.
