The PCB has failed to meet ICC's deadline for submitting a 30 man probables list for Champions Trophy.
Reports indicate the delay is due to Shoaib Akthar 's reluctance to pay the seven million rupees fine as ordered by the Lahore High Court. Earlier, on Akthar's appeal, the court had reduced his ban from five years to 18 months and also ordered Shoaib to pay a fine of five million rupees to the PCB.
This has proved to be the bone of contention between PCB and Shoaib Akthar. The PCB insists that Shoaib has to pay up the fine as per the court order. As Shoaib is dragging his heels over the fine, the PCB has delayed announcing the 30 man probables squad to the ICC.
PCB's COO, Shafqat Naghmi says "The meeting of selectors with the PCB officials will be held on July 14 and we will announce the squad either on the same day or by July 15."
He has indicated that the ICC has permitted this delay.
Interestingly, there is no mention of how the PCB will justify the inclusion of Asif. Asif faces an inquiry on his alleged possession of banned drugs. The committee is yet to start its investigations. Surely, if the committee finds Asif, guilty, the PCB will be hard put to justify his inclusion.

ICC will disqualify pak team from champions if they wont name akhtar in 30s probable list...hence the delay...
Pan,
Care to explain why ICC will disqualify Pak?
i was just being sarcastic OTT over delay for one man...
These are all stories being created. The real problem is that the selectors gave 30 names without naming a captain - thats the real issue that is being sorted out.
Shoaib's ban has been suspended to legally he is allowed to play. Nasim Ashraf accepted his inclusion in the XI.
As for Asif, everyone knows he will be let off scot free.
The Malik captaincy issue is that major lobbying to remove him is going on but Nasim Ashraf is niot agreeing with it.
Pan,
Sorry I missed it completely.
Q,
The fine issue is resolved?
Ott, the fine issue is no issue. Players in Pakistan never pay the fines - they are deducted form their match fees, monthly contract fee, etc..
Its just stories being told to cover for the entire captaincy debate.
The delay is not because of Shoaib or his non payment of fine, Shafqat Naghmi has already said that it is highly unlikely that Akhtar will not be included in the line up just because of the Non Payment of RS 7 million, He said PCB is flexible about the payment of the fine.
Though the selectors had already sent a list of 30 names, four players require the approval of a board committee as they are not on the list of 26 players with central contracts or retainerships.
The captaincy issue and Shoaib Akhtar issue are just sensationalism by the media.
Q/ Wasim,
Thanks for the perpective. For an outsider, there appears wheels within wheels in Pakistan cricket.:)
Wasim,
Players like Rauf, Nasir jamshed, Saeed Ajmal, and others have been included in squads without any approvals required from committees - and none of these are centrally contracted.
The whole media is reporting the Shoaib Akhtar fine issue, Asif drug case, and centrally contracted BS - no one has reported that the selectors handed in 30 players without a captain named..
Q
I wrote the earlier post after reading Shafqat Naghmi's statement,I quoted that Paragraph out of his statement.
Apparently Zakir khan who has a tiff with Shoaib Akhtar is causing problem's, I just read Abid Minto,s who is Shoaib's attorney saying that the board never asked Shoaib to deposit Rs 7 mil fine immediately and the same was echoed by Naghmi in his statement,
Zakir Khan has avoided to say any thing in this respect, so we all can speculate, I haven't heard or read any thing about the list being handed over without naming the captain.
I don't think Shoaib will pay in lumpsump as what if the board takes the money includes him in 30 probables and then exclude him in the final 14.
Again the media is only discussing about Shoaib nobody is talking about Asif, the only thing so far I have read in local newspapers is that the details and findings of his case are going to arrive on Monday from Dubai and after looking at all the evidence and the documents the Committee will make a decision, again they are pushing things as farthest as possible in an effort to avoid media outcry on the subject.
But anyways Monday is not that far away lets see what happens.
Wasim, the news abt the list without the captain has not been reported by the media. I heard it through some friends... Ur right though, Monday is a day away - we'll know what the actual story was..
