Before lambasting Dhoni for opting out of the India- Sri Lanka Test series, take a look at these stats.

MS Dhoni11864.84

R Dravid863830.65
SR Tendulkar814334.68

Since January 2006, Dhoni has missed six out of 124 games, which includes 28 Tests,86 ODI's and 10 Twenty20 international. He certainly deserves a break, however, the press would have been more sympathetic if he had opted out of playing the ODI's instead of opting out of the Tests.

There were quite a few others who plyed non stop in IPL . THeycould have also opted to rest themselves.

Good one Ottayan. Incredible stats, and if they don't say it, what will.
But I like the way he's gone about it: and so far, there's no taming of the shrewd msd!

R,

Agree with you that quiet a few players should have rested themselves.

The fact that they haven't done so indicates that they are insecure of their places in the team.

NC,

The stats are the work of the people at rediff.

Absolutely. No taming MSD.

Oh man, i never realised that MSD played so many matches and missed so little. He deserves a break and he's better than the politicians of the team who hide their injuries just to play matches.

Yes Philips, it is incredible that he had not conked out earlier.

What were they doing in between matches. If they had chosen to rest at home this fatigue would not have come upon them. They go for ads shooting till the next match.Unfortunately few raise this question. We hear abt no of days, hours minutes ,seconds spent on the field .

Otts,

I dont think there is any doubt that MSD deserves a break. But why did he not opt out of the meanigless Kitply cup in Dhaka or for that matter from the Asia Cup.

Surely a test series is more important than any one day game. Dont think any player in the world has pulled him self out of a test match for fatigue reasons.

One wonders if MSD played the one day tournaments because those increase his brand value.

By the way OTTS, your man Badrinath is now the captain of India A which is touring Australia. You must be happy on that front.

After looking at the stats all I can say it is a well deserved rest, its better to rest and revolve your key players rather than risking them to complete burn down.

He deserves the rest. As I said, Let Them!
