Asia Cup- India beat Sri Lankaand eliminate Pakistan

By winning their match against Sri Lanka yesterday, India booked its berth for the final and in the bargain nullified Pakistan's hopes of making it to the final.

By resting Vaas and Mendis, Sri Lanka in a way helped India qualify. Anyway, as India meets Sri Lanka in the final, there is an opportunity to see how the Indian batsmen handle Mendis. It would be battle worth watching.

Coming back to yesterday's match, Sehwag and Gambhir set up a feverish pace which faltered with the dismissal of Sehwag. Though Gambhir continued scoring at a rapid pace, both Raina and Dhoni, made the chase appear tough.

Wonder how the match would have progressed if Yuvraj had been sent at No.3?

if sri lanka helped india by resting vaas and mendis shall be known in the final.

not a large number of bowlers are making waves in this edition of asia cup, and taking that into consideration, mendis, i guess has proved that he can be a very good bowler.

but he hasn't bowled against india, and it remains to be seen, if india can handle him well.

(hopes are low, here comes the choking time)

I thought Dhoni and Raina chased well - mostly risk free but decent tempo. I think they are better option than Yuvraj against Murali - must have played him in the nets so often in the IPL.

Resting Mendis was a good strategy for the final.

APD,

Like you my hopes are moderate. Our tendency to choke is worrying.

RS,

When Sehwag we were in the midst of a power play. In all probability Murali would have not come on.

However, I agree that if Yuvi had coem in Mahela may have tried Murali.

Yuvraj should only attack Murali -that way, he even defends better against him. Whether Sehwag survives to play the spinners will be the key.

Mendis is a bowler for the future. Our batsmen will falter.

in one of the newspapers here in mumbai, i read about sri lanka trying their best to avoid india in the finals, though i have feeling it was otherwise.

and so do most of you here.

other than the 'india chokes in crucial matches' fact, why would sri lanka want to avoid pakistan in the final?

R,
Gambhir will take Mendis to the cleaners.

NC,

Yuvraj will play much better without the pressure of conserving his wicket.

APD,

I am confused too. The logical explanation is they find our team weak.
