ODI's - India record show more wins than losses

For the first time India's has won more one day matches than what it has lost.

Here are the facts:

India's record in One-Day Internationals after the Bangladesh match reads as follows:
PlayedWonLostNo Result/TiedWon%
68832832730/347.67

Can we attribute it to our success against the minnows?

Yes. Against top-eight sides, India have won 252 ODI's and lost 315.

Australia, South Africa, West Indies, and Pakistan have a win/loss ratio of greater than 1 against the top eight sides.

David,
I assumed as much.
Off-topic - do the West Indies still have the same win-loss ratio?

I wonder how come England has a better ratio. Maybe its because of the better teams they had prior to the resurgence of W.Indies, Aus, India, Pak, SL etc.

ottayan,

i have written a blog on similar lines on my page, let me know what you think of it.

i think, india is on a resurgence now,and given some time, may be 3 years, the win/loss ratio against the top 5 for India win be more than 1.

Ott, if you're asking if the Windies have the same win-loss ratio in recent years, the answer is a resounding 'no'. Since 2000, their win/loss is 0.51 - almost two losses for every win.

Philip, England's win-loss is a little bit better than India's (0.86 against 0.80 against top-eight sides) but nothing special. They used to be a pretty good one-day side - three World Cup finals.

David,

Yes, I was asking about their present record.

you have changed too...nice OTT...its the season of change...i changes mine too... :))

though minnows angle cant be ruled out...i think new generation cricketers (from YS Kaif onwards...) are fearless, see in the eye and are not overawed by reputations...

Besides that and all the stats DB has given, India has overtime become a more stronger team..

Pan,

You inspired me to change. Moreover, the text wasn't displaying properly.

New generation is thought to be fearless. Lets see how they react to failure.

Q,

I disagree. It is the other teams that have become weaker.

Ott - u don't think that an Indian team with Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Raina, R. Sharma, Uthappa, Y. Pathan, Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid is stronger than one with Prabhakar, Azharuddin, Kambli, Jadeja, Manjerekar, Robin Singh, N Mongia, etc?

What about one with RP Singh, I. Pathan, I. Sharma, Praveen, Zaheer than one with Srinath, Prasad, Agarkar, etc?

Viswanathan said...

Q,
I did not mean it that way.
What I wanted to convey is other teams namely Pakistan,NZ,England,WI are weaker than what they were earlier.
Don't you agree?

Q said...

Yeah I agree with that. India has gotten stronger and these teams have gotten weaker.
