Mohammad Asif, in detention in Dubai since June 1 for carrying contraband drugs, has been discharged and will be deported to Pakistan at the earliest, according to Public Prosecutor Mohammad Al Nuaimi.
Can someone tell me what this was all about?
Why was he detained and then released?
I ask this question because a statement said that the drug found on him was insignificant in quantity to warrant a punishment.
Which begs the question, didn't they know that the quantity was insignificant when they arrested him?
Either the quantity had conveniently diminished over the days or some one had used the opportunity teach him a lesson.
Most probably, Asif must have snubbed the underworld either in Pakistan or in Dubai and they took it upon themselves to teach him a lesson.
Now that he has been discharged it will be interesting to watch how PCB wriggles out of its high sounding statements of zero tolerance to drugs.

See, i told u rite ;) Its only the poor people who get hanged. If you have a rich papa or a sugar daddy, there is no way you are going to get the noose.
So, its confirmed that Asif took Shilajit for ahem ahem... and not drugs.
Philip,
I was sure of the outcome. What intrigues me is the prolonged detention.
I wonder who wanted to teach him a lesson.
Looks like he was too drunk to pay his salaams to the people that matter... got kayoed perhaps even molested in the dubai jail (buhuhaha ) It's just one big ruckus which has no beginning or end.
You are right - this was expected - but why so long?
Now maybe we can see a life ban which will be suspended for Champions trophy (pending appeal) then reduced to 2 years and then suspended to allow him to play for the IPL (ie. make money) and then reduced further?
Or will he walk scot free?
after getting 'charged' in dubai detention center for continuous 19 days...he is 'discharged' now...
poor guy...no wonder pcb officials are also after him...if dubai ppl can so can they...
There is a fair chance that he was molested thats why he slapped the official. :)
RS,
He will get away scott-free. Now that they have kayoed Shoaib Akthar's career, Pakistan cricket needs his service.
The enquiry will turn up nothing new.
Pan,
Charged- discharged, altogether Asif had a taste of goal.
Dumb Assif was not using drugs he was tested twice in IPL and then again in Dubai all the tests were negative, the drugs were not found in his suitcase they were in his wallet, 0.24 grams wrapped like a hakim's medicine.
Dubai authorities acted on an information they didn't stopped him randomly, but according to WADA code possession of drugs is also punishable,he was clearly not using it other wise three tests would have revealed something.
His prolonged detention was because of the legal procedures, first they were awaiting the test results and then the results for the chemical analysis on the drug.
Apparently he has become a victim of his own dumbness.
All that slapping a police officer story in the media was fabricated by the press.
