Is there a rift between Dhoni and Sehwag?

I remember the media reporting  a rift between Dhoni and Sehwag during the CB series.

Now here is another speculative report.

A television channel had reported that there was a rift between skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and senior batsman Virender Sehwag following the Delhi batsman's exclusion from the team in the last match against Bangladesh.

One thing in common in the two reports is the timing. Whenever Sehwag is 'rested', the speculation starts.

If I remember correctly, in an earlier tour, there were speculative reports that Sehwag, who was having a patchy form, wanted to play down the order and Dhoni disagreed. Then too speculation of a rift was rife.

As these reports consistently talk of a rift, I assume they are fanned by interested parties.

Relatedly it makes me wonder why Sehwag receives bad press?

In the previous one there were doubts about him being rested versus dropped. Now there is no such question - why should Sehwag have a problem as most of the players have been rested in turns (my guess it it pure speculation). Maybe Dhoni needs to rest himself as well for one match.

i think it is only good for sehwag's game that he is rested in between matches, as there a lot of games being played these days.

speculations about rife are cool, fodder for the audience.

The reason as I see it is that Sehwag is neither a fresh leg or a full blown senior. If sehwags or yuvarajs forms have been consistent Dhoni would not have got this post. For all that hype Dhoni is not a captaincy material.Dhoni is good at mugging/reciting his lines. The moment Dhonis form deserts him for some seasons u will see how he gets treated by the powers that be.

RS,
Let me employ an old cliche -do you think there is smoke without fire? :)

APD,

Yep it is fodder for the press too. :)

R,
I have noted your unshakable confidence on Dhoni's captaincy with interest.:)

Simple. Dhoni has more endorsements riding on him. Anyone who gives him a bad press will find their ad space emptying quickly.

Therefore Sehwag is the cribber.

Good to have friends, right?

He must have refused to come for an interview.

ravindran,

you are right about Dhoni getting captaincy for Viru's and Yuvi's inconsistency and/or injuries.

but hasn't dhoni proved his mettle in T20 WC and CB2008 series.

just a thought.

I don't know and I don't care about the rift between Sehwag and Dhoni. Having said that will it be wrong to say that I doubt that the certainty of any rift, at least in this instance? ;)

@Ravindran, finally a voice different from the Dhoni-mania. Yes, I do believe he gets way more credit that he deserves. But Yuvraj isn't captaincy material either. There is a saying in Tamil that goes along the lines of the "in the town where there isn't a sugar mill, illupapoo, a flower becomes sweet". Such is the case with Dhoni. Since he has also stirred up the BCCI power's nest with his "too-much-cricket" comment , when his form deserts him or the team lose a few matches, he will get snubbed, BIG time.

@Ottayan, sorry about taking a lot of space. I've started to ramble here also.

VMM,
Ramble on. :)

Vmminerva
I am waiting for the final reaction for Dhonis "too much cricket" This could have carrried weight if it were made when they were jumping and playing cricket nonstop for 44 days. I would like BCCI to give rest to all these chaps for a few months and play with an alternative team.
BTW ur comparisin with ilupapoo was apt.

@ottayan, ravindran, thanks!

@ankit, I'm flattered that you think that the word rambling now belongs to me. ;) Maybe I should patent it..ha ha!

Dhoni is acting like a politician..he always shouting young team..(it solves two purposes..1.all the young guys will see him as godfather..2.Eliminate all the experinced so he can get Test captainship also). Now there r 2 hurdles Yuvraj and Sehwag. He kept on playing totally out of form Yuvraj in team so that he can show that he is favouring Yuvi on the other hand it will reduce Yuvis stature. In fact dhoni has succeeded in plan. Now when Yuvi has started showing some touch again, he is pushing Raina ahead of him. Dhoni will not allow Sehwag to settle down in the team.
If he is in form "rest" him..otherwise "drop" him. Sehwag has rested almost entire 2007 but he is given rest ahead of all others. But sooner or later Dhoni is going to be exposed but it all depends on Sehwags form. The poor guy first got raw treatment from Vengie and now captain dhoni.

Ajai,
A warm welcome.

You seem to be crediting Dhoni with a lot of deviousness. However, the possibility cannot be denied.
