Indo-Pak cricket in the ‘80s and ‘90s was full of superstition — like playing a Friday final meant Pakistan’s win was a given, while a Saturday schedule suited the Indians. The Indians were supposed to be gentle souls, firmly vegetarian — though there wasn’t a formal veg/non-veg head-count taken, and nor was there a science-paper published linking not eating meat to not being mean. But, they generally ended losers. Pakistan, on the other hand, were boisterous, ate everything, had factions in their team and more captains than one could count. But they always won.
To me Miandad was my superstition. If that man was fit and playing it meant a Pakistan victory. I always equated an Indian win with getting rid of Miandad cheaply.

For us it always was, get Sachin and we will win :-) More often than not we did..
For last few years its been get sachin, get sehwag, get yuvraj, get dhoni and now get gambhir, get sharma...

Ijaz Ahmed is the coach of the U19 team - he was with them at the WC this Feb :-)
I am superstitious about Pakistani batsmen, always worried will Younis Khan score runs, will Afridi fire, will Kamran Akmal score more than 15,
I was never superstitious about our bowling no matter what the score they were defending but now I am always thinking will the bowlers take wickets, will they be economical.
The other team always looks good if you do not have a pound to pound match up.
ott, ijaz was a real bother, as was salim malik. but the runaway train had to be anwar. esp when he came with a runner.
before afridi's myth as an opener destroyer was levelled, his wicket had to be the one.
but coming to superstitions, for the longest time it had to be Sachin's wicket. And now Sehwag.
for Pak now, it has to be Butt. and to some extent Akmal. Tho Razzaq was up there too. Esp when he conspired with Akmal.
The latest superstition is get fresh legs and u can run the show and we have seen how they ran the show in the final of the kitply
for sometime it was ijaz... I still remember the beating he gave in that one single match :)
