Venkatesh Prasad shifts blame

The blame game has begun indicating that The Royal Challengers Bangalore franchisee is a sinking ship. First off the block is Venkatesh Prasad. Here he is professing his innocence.

Prasad said that though he was the designated coach of the team, he effectively "started handling the duties of the bowling coach as Martin Crowe, the Chief Cricket Officer, and Rahul (Dravid, the captain) handle the team selections and all the other duties".

He is squarely blaming Martin Crowe and Rahul Dravid for the team's lackluster performance. Surely, he is readying to bail out.

Protecting his India position. Maybe someone will actually take a look at BRC bowling performance.

Someone also needs to look at his pay check.. A reduction in salary is not far away :)

Cheers

There was another news that Dravid threatened to quit if Prasad was sacked .How do u take this one.Since Dravid the icon cannot be removed just like that ,all his chosen men are facing uncertain future in the team
I wont be surprised if the UB which owns the team drastically reduces the salary to the minumum or pays gamewise according to performance.

Soulberry,

What surprised me is Mallya who has thrown his money on NFL Cheerleaders and such like has got such poor support staff.

Surely, he could have done better than Venkatesh Prasad and Martin Crowe?

Homer,

Is that possible? Modi is making noises about players having to be paid their full 3 year salary.

Viswanathan said...

R,

Their contracts preclude that.

Modi cannot, I think, dictate terms to the franchisees. The players are their property and not attached to BCCI for the time being as far as the IPL is concerned. Moreover the franchsees bought the team(for eg 111 mil dols by Banglr) and ,I understand ,are required to pay the sum to BCCI in 10 yrs.So it goes without saying that the salary, which I suspect is known only to the players, also gets paid in 10 yrs. This is what I gathered from an interview of one of the team owners.

Well obviously the thinking has gone completely wrong with the RCB.
Here are some instances:

1) Asking Boucher to bat at 3 ahead of White, Dravid and Kohli.

2) Dropping Misbah for crucial games.

3) Sending Praveen Kumar to bat ahead of Virat Kohli.

4) Not playing Cameron White, who is one of the best twenty twenty players in the world.

5) Persisting with Kallis at 4 even though he has been a failure.

The point is, who has taken these decisions. The person behind these failed startegies surely needs to be accountable.

R,

Just yesterday when there was talk of trading/discarding players Modi revealed that the franchisees will have to pay the players for 3 years of the contracted period.

Apurv,

No is going to admit to them.It will be difficult to pin point now.:)

The four foreign players in Bangalore should be 1. Steyn 2. Misbah 3. Boucher 4. White. There should not be any doubts regarding this. But other than these players I don't see any one who is really adjusted themselves to play 2020. Dravid is not only playing badly but his captaincy also lacks aggression. Kohli hasn't played to his full potential. sometimes he has not got the chance to do well. The bowling is also found wanting. Except Steyn, noone has looked like taking a wicket.

I think there has lot of thinking that has to go into RCB now and sacking and blaming people is not going to help their cause. May be Dravid can give up the captaincy to someone like Boucher who is naturally more aggressive than him. And probably in the next season they should take some 2020 specialist as well.

OTTY
Heard of any company paying three years salary in advance? One of the condition is that only those who are available for selection, including those in the dugout will be paid which means all those who left for playing for their country will be paid matchwise.

Viswanathan said...

Tri,

RCB has left it too late. Unless some of the favorites slip up drastically, they have no chance.

Viswanathan said...

R,

It is not in advance. These cricketers are contracted for a period of 3 years. Hence the franchisee has to pay them if they are ready and available to play.

Yes otty, contracted for three yrs to PLAY.The franchisees will be at liberty to send anyone after one yr or two yrs. They are not obliged to keep non performers for three yrs.The operative part is AVAILABLE .Any idea how much Hussey,Heyden or Ponting were paid when they left. What if a player joins another team after one year. Will he get three yrs salary from his earlier team and another three from the new team which he can leave the next year.
Do u think Charu would have been paid three yrs salary when he left.He was also under contract.Any contract is terminable and the franchise would have made provision for this in their contracts. Nothing in this IPL is static. Iam also a bit sceptic abt the whole thing. when the first balloon bursts evrything will be clear.
