Team owners can sit in the dug out.

IPL has issued new guidelines permitting team owners to cheer their team from the dug out. Surely, the cricketers and the support staff weren't consulted. They will find this unwelcome.

Seriously, an owner sitting with the team during a tense encounter will be a hindrance. It will lead to micro management.Disagreements between the coach and the owner will be commonplace and will take place in full public view. A day may come when you will find a owner slapping a player or even the coach.

On a lighter note, just imagine Dravid's plight.

SRK has been in the dug out in the last 3-4 matches even before this resolution was passed. This means that he wan't allowed when he was doing that previously?

I have actually been imagining the owner of my company standing behind me as I work daily :-( Can't be pleasant. The team and coach do not seem to have the courage to say no (Buchannan actually said he was welcome). And SRK came across as if he was above the rules in the press conference (daring the ICC and CBI to ban him).

Q,

I think it is the WADA guys who wanted team owner out.

ipl08,

I really don't understand the need.

Icc wants to micromanage the ipl matches. It is stupid of them to issue such an order. They have brought in so many amendments to ruin cricket why not allow the team owner(he is not a gambler)to talk to the boys.If he cannot go and see his team boys who can. When the game itself is reduced to a mockery what is so sacrosanct abt the dug out or arm pit or undressing room.

Shouldn't allow owners into the players' area during a match.

Bad precedent...

Soulberry,

Exactly, I missed that point. Today owners tomorrow whom else?

As far as Dravid, maybe he has already experienced this? Looks bad, if executives sit on meetings and cancel team outings...
