Vijay Mallya and Shah Rukh Khan are studies in contrast. If Mallya exhibits all the withdrawal symptoms, SRK is still behaving like a groupie. The signing up of
Sri Lanka's new spin sensation Ajantha Mendis to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season is sufficient proof he is still high on IPL
Will Ajantha Mendis help the Kolkata Knight Riders into the semifinals?

The difference is that one team is still in contention while the other is resigned to the wooden spoon.
And what does one say of the Royally Challenged's efforts? Their body language is weak, their efforts with the bat and ball are lack lustre, their leadership is non existent..
I guess any owner ( or any fan for that matter) will live with the defeats as long as he/she is convinced that their team gave it their all.
Cant say that about the Royally Challenged's efforts.
Cheers
You are right thats the difference. SRK hasn't given up on his team.
Just can't put my finger on where exactly RC has gone wrong. One thing which stands out glaringly is the lack of zest.
Any theories?
Ott,
captaincy is what I attribute this to..
Warne can take a bunch of relative unknowns and make them walk on water.. Polly and SRT can turn a franchise's fortunes around by their leadership. Rahul Dravid can take a team of proven performers and make them look ordinary.
Their batting order, I think, is the best example of a captain's muddled thinking.
Does Dravid know what he wants from his team?
Cheers
Let me take that one step further - Does Rahul Dravid even know his team?
And the reason I ask this is simple-if you know your personnel, you know what to expect from them.. And if you are really really good, you know what buttons to push to get them to work to their optimal.
But if you dont even know your team, ho0w do you know what to expect from them?
Let me give you a couple of examples - Multan 2003/04 and THAT declaration.
In itself, it was a good cricketing decision.
But given SRT's run of form lading upto the Sydney double and then being on the cusp of a back to back double, it does beg the question doesnt it?
And then there was the call to bat first at Lahore on a greentop.
Again, a good cricketing decision but what of the team?
Taking good cricketing decisions but not being able to sell these to the team is reflective of poor leadership.
Cheers
Mendis who? What can he do in the last few matches. Riders and chennais are fighting for semi final place desperately. One of them will be pushed back a little if they lose.
Homer,
I am in complete agreement.
What should be Dravid's course of action?
R,
KKR has 3 more matches. SRK is still hopeful so if they qualify for the semi's then there are two more matches.
Mendis can play all the 5.
Give up the captaincy.
Ahaha! Will his ego let him give up?
so he has an ego then!... Given all the good press he receives about being the perfect team man, I would have never guessed. :)
Cheers
Homer,
I think it is press who made him the dour (wall).
If the 'Jammy' nickname had stuck he would have been a much relaxed player.
"IPL groupie" ha ha ha... you got me going
Scorpi,
Even though I had used the word before you are the first one to notice it. :)
He does behave like a groupie, doesn't he?
absolutely Otts... you got me going again
Mallayya has a costly dud on his hands. IPL looks set to go ahead for many seasons. Entertainment tax waiver has lifted the profit margins. Khan is planning ahead while Mallayya is mulling over 16 overpriced duplicates. He has to dispose them off first...and that's what he;s probably contemplating.
Soulberry,
He will make it impossible for Dravid to continue.Dravid will get out by himself. Kumble will also be put to pasture along with Joshi. It is Kallis I am doubtful. Will he continue with him?
