The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to scrap the USD five million cap on the players' salaries from next season onwards, a move that could see top cricketers earn as much as a whopping USD 15 million (Rs 61 crore approx).
Hmm.. I am bit confused. Is IPL's inaugural tournament a success?

ottayan,,
IPL is a huge success among the Indian public.. Most of the soap operas television ratings fell down drastically, thanks to IPL.. Even films are affected.. For example Tamil Films had a drastic 85% reduction of revenues, thanks to IPL.. Theatre owners report that nobody turns up for the theatres for the evening and night shows..
IPL Success is not because it is good.. But its substitues - soap opera & films are pretty bad.. So people looking for entertainment during summer holidays are pretty hooked to it..
Surprisingly, IPL has also been able to draw non-cricket fans like women into action because of the shortness of the game..
So by television ratings, IPL is a huge success.. So if the upper cap is removed, expect the players' salaries to skyrocket further..
Robin,
There is a survey which revealed that women watch the cheerleaders while men watch the game.
What I am trying to say is that the IPL is a success among all sections of the public.
u would have noticed something revealing.. After the chargers lost a few matches they did not cammand a full house in Hyderabad.Same with mumbai and today chennai vs chargers. There were some empty spaces.
The ipl is a success if u take into account fans participation.Only the franchisees can say how they fared after the event. A few franchisees may sell their team next year.
U will get an idea if u read the interview of Srinivasan of chennai in Hindu sometimes back and also SRKs rantings evry now and then.
R,
The crowds are thinning, no doubt about it.
