Mumbai Indians snare Pietersen

It appears both Pietersen and the Mumbai Indians have their wish.

Kevin Pietersen is poised to be given the green light to earn in excess of £2million from the most lucrative deal yet offered by the Indian Premier League. The England and Wales Cricket Board are resigned to allowing Pietersen to accept the three-year contract which has been offered to him by one of India's wealthiest families.

Pietersen is due to play in the next edition of IPL signaling the start of an exodus.

Is there no salary cap for 2009? I think IPL should have a salary cap, but maybe increase it a little bit. Leagues without a salary cap will be one-sided. One of the most exciting parts of this year's IPL has been how even the teams have been. Otherwise Mallya and Ambani will probably be able to spend much more than the other teams. The cost of this will eventually get transferred to the spectators and fans. What happens to existing contracts? Will they be renegotiated?

Piet is a good buy.But 2mln is a bit too much.Who are we to stop if the franchises have not seen the fickleness of the teams.Somebody is going to be sacrificed to accomodate him.

ipl08,

A warm welcome.

No there is no cap during the second season.

Tri,

I understand that Pietersen had signed up and was waiting for ECB to release for quiet sometime.

Others will follow.

R,

That amount is larger than Dhoni's salary.

THe deal is not confirmd. The buyer is still a secret. They will regret paying such a huge sum.

Which team is he going to join? Is it MI? If it is so, then I think it will spoil the MI's winning combination. Who will he replace? I think it will most probably be Bravo.

I agree with Ravindaran, Games such as Baseball and Cricket needs a good team rather than a great player. With all the talent tendulkar has got, during his era, the win/loss ratio is against him. Look what Warne is doing in Jaipur. For me people like Kaif, Raina, Badrinath worth far more than all these high profile players.

Tri,

He is joining the MI next year.

Nel replaces Bravo this year.

slogger,
A warm welcome. True the players you mentioned are value for money. Next year these guys will get their true reward.

Nel and Piet too.How many players are going to be contracted to Muimbai and how many dead contracts they will have to honour .Already the players pit looks like a snakepit. The news I read was that "one of the wealthiest families" is trying to rope in Piet.

Nel was seen sitting in the pit and grinnig as usual sheepishly.HE will be put in the next game.
