The prospect of having two more franchisees means that the existing franchisees will scrabble to tie up the entire International and local cricketers before the prices goes up. On the player’s front, it may mean fatter and longer contracts with the English players finally landing juicy contracts.
However, the addition of two more franchisees may cause headaches for the other Twenty20 leagues, namely EPL, PPL and the yet to named Australian Twenty20 tournament. It means they have to schedule their tournament around IPL more judiciously.

The purpose of having two more franchisees is to attract English players and more Aus players, Incidentally today morning a news channel gave the details of revenue and expenditure for the franchisees .The exp as expected far exceeds the rev. Doesnt look encouraging.Things are already heating up in the dressing rooms of losing teams.
The things is that the IPL will always be played during April / May so whether 8 teams or 10 the EPL, PPL, APL, or whatever would have been scheduled at other times.
Modi talked about increasing the number of franchises in 2-3 years time before this season started.
It also makes sense to have more franchises cos there are so many internationals who are there at the IPL but not playing cos of the 4 player quota.
This way the internationals could be divided across teams more appropriately.
R,
The revenue and the expenditure are to accrue over the years. It is not that they are spending only mode.
Q,
Will it not extend the tournament?
With 8 teams its 56 games in 42 days.
With 10 teams it will be 90 games...it could be done in 45 days if there are 2 matches everyday...
Otty ,both will accrue simultaneously.
Q,
The pitches will be unable to take this load. They will have to play in other neutral centres.
R,
True. They will still make a profit.
Neutral Centres = Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi, Dubai :-)
groan... they will make this tournament even longer
Otty
The joke is that some franchise are still hoping to break even in the first year itself which means within the next few days.
