The FTP (Future Tours Programme) in jeopardy.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has received a tremendous response to buy franchise rights/sponsor teams in the planned Pakistan Premier League Twenty20 competition.

By their admission, the constraining factor is the availability of a suitable slot in the crowded FTP (Future Tour Programme).

Along with the PPL, there is EPL and a T20 tournament in Australia (APL?) vying for suitable slots. In all probability the FTP is destined for to the dustbin.

The FTP is a joke.. How else can you describe a document that holds the Australian and English seasons sacrosanct, organizes 4 tests in 15 months for New Zealand and has India touring Sri Lanka in the middle of the monsoon season?

Cheers

Homer,

Much ado about nothing?

the FTP had its uses - like forcing the non asian teams to visit the sub continent on a regular basis.. But with teams violating the FTP with impunity, the document is not worth the paper it is written on

Scorpi ud be surprised by the number of paki corporates looking to own cricket teams. These guys have a lot of money. PPL has been talked about for 6 months now. The bigger hindrance i see is that no intl players will come and play in pakistan so it'll just be a paki domestic thing unlike the global extravanganza the IPL is.

I think in the future a better proposition will be a combined IPL / PPL - have lahore, karachi, islamabad, peshawar play along side mumbai, delhi, kolkata, etc.

That taps the potential of the biggest rivalry in cricket - Pakistan vs India and enhances the popularity of the IPL.

Maybe 3-5 years down the line this will be a possibility.

Oh and the FTP, it will soon be the FLP!

Homer has a point about FTP.

I welcome the PPL.

The other PLs may torpedo the original PL that is IPL.
