It was Gavaskar who made feigning ignorance about personal milestone's fashionable. Now Ponting claims he was unaware of approaching 10,000 runs in Test cricket.
This blogger takes these claims with a pinch of salt. When we all know that a small child keeps tracks of his scores, it is hard to believe an International cricketer when he feigns ignorance.
Do you think any cricketer worth his salt is unaware of his milestones?

i dont blame him...he was so pre-occupied with his form of late...he was wondering where the next single is gonna come from...forget about 10k...
Did he say milestones or millstones? Ponting with his question mark looks can be forgiven
Pan,
Now you have a point. :)
R,
Both. He looks like a man nursing a secret sorrow.
it doesn't add up. guess cricketers can't add. but that's a small minus.
considering he has been close to those 10000 runs for so long with all his failures... one can bet he is playing cricket's ol humble gimmick.
NC,
Looks like selective amnesia to me. :)
Scorpi,
Thought as much.
Scorpi,
The Prick, humble? Did the sun rise from the West?
Cheers
Otts, Homer... exactly... what a farce.. I saw an interview with Ricky before the India tour where this question of crossing 10,000 runs was asked... he thinks public memory is short-lived... what a dumb ass.
Hmmm... He got a 100 in his last 2 tests. He was never out of form in the test matches..lack of form in ODIs and 20-20 hold no bearing on test matches.
As for knowing about milestones, cricketers probably know about it before getting into a match. They may not have it on their palms all the time, but before a match they are definitely told by someone in the team.
Ponting did say he was told before the match that he needed 61 to get to 10,000.
These guys have scored so much, it is hard to keep count.
Homer,
:)
Q,
Partly correct. It is indeed difficult to keep track of individual runs.
However, what about something huge as 10,000 runs. Something which only 6 other batsmen have done before?
I think he would have known that he's close... but exactly how much he needed he would have found out just before the match...
Im not sure exactly what Ponting said, but I did read that he said that he knew he needed 61 to get there before he went out to bat cos someone in the team had told him abt it...
Only we stupid people talk abt these milestones.Ask any player how much is due from his boards he will get it right to his pie.
