Q makes an impassioned plea:
All the national cricket boards need to come together and stand up to the BCCI. They need to let the BCCI know that they are at a loss since they are not getting a share of IPL revenues and at the same time they are losing cricketers to the ICL because of their support to the BCCI. I hope that sanity prevails and the boards don't go for a cut in IPL revenues as opposed to having their domestic cricketers back.
However, standing up to the BCCI is not enough. The cricketing associations should rid themselves of nepotism, regional factions, prejudice and select players purely on merit. They should ensure that players get a fair share of the profits and give them a fair representation in the board.
If team selection is on merit, a player’s first priority will be to play for the honour of representing his country and then only then he will play for money (ICL/IPL).

i exactly posted these comments on Q's post...
-------------
though i am also a basher of bcci (if not big basher)...
but seriously how can bcci be blamed for other boards knowtowing to them...??
i am yet to hear a report that mr lalit mody assembled all board super honchos and on point blank gun got the approvals from all over?
those who are signing icl know it for sure that they WONT BE able to play for their countries and majority of them i believe are majors...if not all...
as they say with every decisions comes the consequences associated with it...its called karma...
------------------------------
having said that...i truly believe that better sense will prevail in the end...and we will see better cricketing organisations...
market forces will definitely make this happen...
and thanks for dropping by at my blog after long....long...time...
cheers!!
Pan,
You are mistaken. I read your every post. Maybe I didn't comment as I had nothing to say.
BTW, I read every ones blog in fact most often within minutes of being updated.
Ottayan,
"The cricketing associations should rid themselves of nepotism, regional factions, prejudice and select players purely on merit."
But.. are not most of the points you mentioned something that may happen in a idealistic world.. and surely something that is not going to happen in the near future..
Also.. While Q makes a point which rises from his association to Pakistan, yours rises from ur association to India.. Are these the only 2 countries that matter???
Also saying that choosing players on merit can be said easily.. But living in a world where there is little differences between the quality of the upcoming players, on what basis the selectors are supposed to choose?
thanks OTT...

Robin,
This was in response to Q's post.
As Straight Point puts it, why is everyone blaming the BCCI?
Take NZ, there cricket is in poor shape after the onset of these leagues they have increased players retainers.
ECB is crying itself hoarse about IPL. What about 'Kolpak'? SA has lost many players because of this?
Then SA should be yelling murder at ECB?
WI,PCB cricketing boards have internal problems. There selections are absurd and biased.
So how can BCCI be responsible for their problems?
What I was suggesting was, yes IPL has put a new spin, but just by standing up against it is not going to help.
Cricket or business? The ICC themselves should clarify as it stands all these are private bodies that do cricket and business... the and here is important.
The way they are seeing it is like pure business... just like you cannot normally find any employer which allows your payrolled employee work for a competitor at the same time.
In essence, there is no cricketing body in the world including the PCB which actually cares about the cricket.
Look at racing... there are so many bodies with different racing formats all co-existing. They are primarily bothered about racing... money automatically follows.
My view was based on the bans on the ICL players. Even though i am coming from a Pakistani perspective my stance stands for the other nations as well - NZ have lost a lot to the ICL as have SA, WI, etc..
I blame the BCCI for banning the ICL and making life hell for those associated with the ICL.
I want all the boards to accept the ICL and allow the ICL players to play in domestic games as well as international ones if picked.
But all the boards accepting the ICL is not enough if it means going against the BCCI..
So in brief the BCCI needs to be convinced to accept the ICL and it is only the national cricket boards who can do that...
If you go back to my post u'll see a comment regarding shane bond.. thats what the BCCI has been doing..
Q,
I am saying the saying thing. However, I am also saying that standing upto the BCCI is not enough, you have to put your own house in order.
Agreed Ott, that is definitely required.. but as far as lifting the bans on ICL players is concerned, BCCI is the one that needs to be talked out of it first.
U know my ideal world - free economy of cricket. Let all the leagues prevail along side inernational cricket. Let the players choose their employers.
