Inder Singh Bindra (BCCI) wants to the Indian Government to legalise cricket betting. The justification being "it will not only eliminate things like match fixing but also generate huge revenue for the government in millions. It is in the interest of the government,'
What he fails to mention is that by legalizing betting BCCI can milk another revenue generation avenue dry.
However, legalising betting will have an unintended fall out :it will bring more followers to the game, albeit for the wrong reasons.

One certain spin-off of that is generally no one can keep proppiing their arguments up by pointing to bookie-ism in India. If it is Cricketji Bookiewallah in India it will be Ladbrokes in England and so on.
But it will take getting used to...the roguishness associated with a derby in cricket.
Soulberry,
Thats a valid point.
I have been expecting something like this. if u cannot fight betting do it urself legally seems to be the new linr of thinking. .
Wont legalized betting lead to more wide spread betting which in turn can lead to match fixing?
Q,
Hopefully it will take the underworld out of the equation. :)
Its hard to keep D bhai out of the equation - woh kehte hain na, Don ko pakarna mushkil hi nahin namumkin hai!
Q,
It was a thought. :)
So is mine Ott ;-)
And absolute no... we are one of the few countries that don't legally allow it and in spite of that there is so much hara kiri... no way on legalizing it.
A classic case of a greedy shady board official.
Q , if it come to that matchfixing can also be legalised.
