IPL is bigger than the World Cup

IPL is bigger—in terms of sheer logistics activities—than the ICC World Cup, the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Just look at the enormity of arranging the event.overwhelm 1

To begin with, IPL has booked 12,000 hotel nights, 20,000 air tickets and will move at least 1000 people every day. Even during the last World Cup in the West Indies, the total movement over 54 days was six times and in IPL the teams and the officials will be moving 44 times.(Image Courtesy)

To cut the long story short a total 3,000 people including the cricketers will be ferried from one part of India to another.

An overwhelming affair is it not.

It seems like a bit of PR spin to me. Moving 3000 people over two months for the IPL but only 128 athletes.
Wikipedia indicates the Commonwealth Games has 5,000 athletes and the Asian Games 10,000 athletes. This does not include support staff and media which seem to be included in the IPL figures. The Games are also over ten days which would seem more a logistic nightmare than a spread event where chatering a plane to move TV equipment seems the biggest challenge.
Most of the rest (flights, hotel etc) could be done with just an internet connection if they really wanted.

Park,

Most of the commonwealth/Asian games are single venue event.

Probably the report wanted to indicate that.

indeed this version of IPL seems bigger than WC...

in terms of impact...for the hype... the curiosity of new concept...how stars from different countries will get together to make a team...so many things going for IPL...

now, if only cricket is better...

This is interesting info but I think so many people are not required and may be exaggerated.

There's much more involved when you consider the security measures to be implemented. In a way I am not proud of it for it adds to plenty of environmental degradation and general inconvenience.

That said, I propose BCCI to be given charge of bringing and arranging the Olympics in India rather than that moribumd bum-sitters called, what...IOC?
