Having analysed the batting averages of the top eight teams since 2000, David Barry argues successfully that Teams with good spinners bat well against spin and pace (bowling).
If David’s statistics are true (I have no reason to believe otherwise) then in essence does it means Indian batsmen as a rule are quiet competent in handling fast bowlers?
Not quiet says David,” It's just a trend - the correlation isn't perfect. In terms of averages since 2000, India rank third in terms of their spinners, and fifth in how well they place pace.”
However, it is still interesting to speculate how Indian batsmen gained this reputation?
I believe this impression is largely due to the fact that fast bowling has been responsible for some of our most humiliating defeats. Since those defeats have been comprehensive, we choose to believe that our batsmen are suspects against pace bowling.
What do you say?
