Anon(s),

If Sri Lanka wriggles out of the Pakistan tour then it will be a pity. Pakistan will stand completely isolated. I for one do not want that.

It is too early to say that Sri Lanka is unafraid of losing to Pakistan. Let us wait and watch.:)

India turning on the screws...hahaha. Who wants to play Pakistan now? Zimbabwe?

2 failed countries playing each other...lol

Ranatunga forgot something. He was able to stand up to the Aussies only because he had the BCCI backing him.

Philip,

I think Ranatunga did what he believed was good for Sri Lankan Cricket. However, he could have achieved more if he had done it in a more subtle manner.

Ultimately, Ranatunga the cricket administrator lost out to Ranatunga the politician. So in the end he was just grand-standing to score political points.

Do the have a better person than him to run the show.I think the tour of Pakistan was arranged without consulting the ministry.

R,

I agree that there is a possibility of the tour being agreed upon without taking the permission of the ministry.

However, I disagree that Ranatunga is a capable administrator. He is more of a politician than an administrator. Witness the incident involving the IPL where he spoiled the whole thing by claiming all credit.

Contrast this with the behaviour of those at the helm of CSA and CA. They too got what they wanted form Modi, but did not go public claiming personal credit.

I believe Ranatunga has messed up Sri Lankan cricket. He has antagonized both the cricketers of SL and other Cricket boards. One other incident that brings his abrasive side out is demanding money for Sri Lankan teams appearance in the Toronto Twenty20 conducted by PCB. The sum quoted was deliberately unrealistic to deny SL cricketers who were at loggerheads with him over IPL participation, an opportunity to play and thus teach them a lesson.

Sorry, he is a pathetic administrator who grew too big for his boots and finally got his comeuppance.
