Adam Gilchrist blames India for 2005 Ashes loss

This is the first time I am hearing it. Gilchrist says that the Indian tour prior to the 2005 Ashes tour was the reason behind Australia losing the Ashes.

"It had become very important to us prior to 2004, and I guess that's why we lost our focus a bit in the 2005 Ashes series. We were unable to realign our focus to the Ashes and were exposed badly."

Has anyone heard this earlier?

Hadnt Hayden suggested that winning the India series in 2004 distracted the Australian side in 2005?

"For so long winning a Test series in India had been our focus. Australia had been there and failed so often over the years, and while we were winning Ashes series on a consistent basis, the mountain was there for us to climb in the sub-continent.

Overcoming that hurdle in 2004 was enormously satisfying, and much as happened to England after they reclaimed the Ashes, the series took a heavy toll on us all, physically and emotionally."

Tri,

From Homers comment I understand his comment has some basis.

Thank you for clearing the haze. :)

Ott,

It just means both Gili and Hayden have a lighter side to their characters.

No, I'm hearing it from you.

The comment is quite unusual of an Aussie.

Tri,

I doubt whether Hayden has any sense of humor.:)

VVS would have been as good a reason as any.
