World's largest cricket stadium to come up in Chennai.

Eden Gardens, MCG beware, the TNCA is planning to build a stadium with more seating capacity.
This stadium is being built in time for the 2011 World Cup.
However, Chennaites have a reason to be concerned.
The proposed stadium is to come up about 25 kilometers off Chennai. This means there will be a two-fold increase in the traveling time plus more inconvenience when you take the the stringent security measures into consideration.

To me personally, the new venue will be a inconvenience and I would rather prefer staging the matches at the historic MAC in Chepauk.
Will the Chennai readers (if any embarassed ) indicate their preference?

They have not taken into account the interest sustained left the game by then. When the road is being laid fro a split in the set up will it ever take place at all.

R,

I think it is the money in the coffers which is pushing them to do this.

Where is it supposed to be - OMR/ECR? before Mahabalipuram or after.

On the way to Kanchipuram.

Chepauk is more centrally located, but traffic and parking were terrible - not that the traffic to the new stadium will be easier... Will it be used for non-cricket sports? Then I am all for a new stadium. Chepauk needed revamping.

is this one more reason as why it might be better to live near chengalput than in chennai? :)

RS,

I doubt it. This is owned by the TNCA and will be used for cricket.

NC,

Possible. The beauty is people from Banglore too can drive down for a match. :)

Philip,

The reports were indicating so. Plus the stadium is to have a retractable roof too.
