Why is Laxman happy to let things drift?

On VVS Laxman's reluctance

I am in complete agreement with Shahid Afridi when he says Adam Gilchrist would make a better skipper for the Deccan Chargers team in the next IPL season.
Because like his batting in Sri Lanka, VVS Laxman’s captaincy during the IPL left us wondering why he fails to impose himself on the game.

Do you have any idea on why he refuses to take charge?

Not quie true. He has played some superb single lone innings in Tests which have turned the course of the game in India s favor.

May be he never would captain India, but then captaincy isnt everything in cricket. a player like Laxman can contribute to team s cause in many ways

Any player gets the authority to command only if he is assured of a place in the team regularly. We all know how he has been in and out of the team. He had time only to rue his fate. Of course as Dchargers captain he has a more secure place but habits die hard. I dont think they will change him coz he is an icon and will remain a captain.

Buzz,

Let me start by saying that I am a unabashed Laxman fan. So it is with reluctance that I criticise him.

Having said that, I am disappointed by his captaincy and his batting. O,K. IPL is a new format, yet he could have lead the team better.

As for his batting he seems to flourish only when he bats with other recognised batsmen.

When he bats along with tailenders, it appears that he is more interested in carrying his bat to protect his average.

R,

I am in complete agreement with you regarding the shabby treatment meted out to him.

However, that cannot excuse his rather laid-back batting with the tailenders.

Afridi is commenting on VVS's performance :( If I remember correctly he did not bat or bowl well in the IPL. And the team really did not do well with Gilly as the captain either... So something else was the problem.

RS,

Agree with you that DC did not do well under Gilly. Under Lakshman the team seemed more de-motivated and lacked a sense of purpose

Afridi sucks. Period.
He is not even worth tying Laxman's shoe laces. Period.
