On Badrinath - Or why I wanted Badrinath in the team.

Excellent pointers I picked up from today's 'THE HINDU':

"Indeed, over the last three years, no Indian batsman has made as strong and undeniable a case for selection in both forms of the game: so prolific has been the right-hander in domestic cricket and ‘A’ tour games, that only Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar, among batsmen still active and with at least 50 innings, have a higher First Class average than Badrinath’s 56.49; his List A record is impressive as well — an average of over 40 in 71 games."

It is reassuring to learn that my bias is supported by statistics.

Many others had a good run befere he was selected. Very often these scores matter little when one is pushed into the big league.we are seeing the fate of Pathan who took a hatrick in the first three balls in a test and yet finding himself out of the team for non performance. Luck shd join hands with Badri to ensure a long stay

this stats game is over the top for me...

if one doesnt score in domestic cricket, list a cricket or india a tours one would say why he is selected his stats are so bad....

and if he do score as much as badri has...we say oh runs at domestic or other games doesnt matter...

funny isnt it...

he can only show metal that whether he is perfect replacement or not ONLY when he gets to play...other than that its armchair guess we play to pass time...

R,

I agree luck plays a large part in making or breaking of a sportsman.

Pan,

By and large I avoid statistics. It is just that in Badrinath’s case it proved my intuitions correct.

me too OTT...i was talking about general perception of runs scored at domestic or any other lever than internal level...

Pan,

You have pin pointed it exactly. As you noticed Pointing and Sachin must have played lesser amount of domestic cricket.(It is not their fault.)
